Washington Hires League’s First Black Team President
The Washington Football Team has named Jason Wright as their new team president. This news is just the latest in the abundance of offseason changes that the team has undergone. Wright is the first African American team president in the NFL and at 38 years old, he is also the youngest.
The announcement was first made on ABC’s “Good Morning America”, with host Michael Strahan talking one on one with the new team president, who is also a former NFL player. Wright is a football player turned businessman who has just made history.
Washington has been without a team president since Bruce Allen was fired on December 30. The team has undergone a major culture change since then. With a name and logo change, a new head coach, a new social media manager, and a new lead broadcaster, times are definitely changing. By the way, the latter two positions were filled by women.
Getting back to the team’s latest hire, here’s some background on Jason Wright:
Star RB at Northwestern
Signed with 49ers as an Undrafted Free Agent in ‘04
Played 7 years in the league with the Niners, Falcons, Browns, and Cardinals
Went into business, graduated from Northwestern with a psychology degree & earned a Master’s degree in Business Admin. from the Univ, of Chicago.
The Washington Football team has made history as the first NFL team to take on the issue of hiring minorities to fill authoritative positions. Hopefully, every other team will see the changes that Washington is making and follow suit.
