The Stage is Set
The CFB National Championship game is set for Monday night. Along with everything else that happened in 2020, getting to this point was not without difficulty for either team. Ohio State’s season was in jeopardy from the very beginning, due to the Big Ten’s decision to not have a football season, which was obviously overturned. Alabama’s head coach, Nick Saban, tested positive for Covid-19 on two separate occasions, causing him to miss time with his team.
No matter how you feel about these two teams, they made it to the National Championship game for a reason. A lot of people were expecting this game to be played between Alabama and Clemson, but Ohio State had something a bit different in mind.
The anticipated matchups for this game are like nothing we’ve seen all season. No doubt, the best of the best will face off on Monday night. Ohio State has an extremely talented and tough quarterback in Justin Fields, who took a huge shot to the ribs during the game against Clemson and only came out of the game for one snap. Fields was able to return and put up insane numbers against Clemson’s defense, mostly relying on his accurate arm and his ability to throw the ball down the field.
Everyone knows by now that Alabama has lots of immensely talented and highly decorated players on their team. Among them is Heisman winner DeVonta Smith. There aren’t enough adjectives to describe how well Smith has played this season after the devastating injury to fellow standout WR Jaylen Waddle, who will be a game-time decision on Monday. It’s safe to say that the voting committee for the Heisman Trophy got this one right by a country mile.
Both teams are star studded so there will always be another player that could be a factor in this game. The best thing anyone could say about this National Championship game is that it’s shaping up to be a great game with even better matchups. Although there is still controversy surrounding the committee’s playoff decisions, this is how it turned out. Like it or not, Alabama or Ohio State will hoist college football’s most important trophy on Monday night and that’s that.
