The Rock buys XFL After Bankruptcy
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has partnered with RedBird Capital and Dany Garcia to purchase the XFL for $15 million. The new football league filed for bankruptcy earlier this year due to Covid-19. The league’s inaugural season was cancelled due to the virus and its players were without jobs.
The XFL had been seeking a buyer for the past three months. The league has been marketing itself as something that can transition to a bubble concept as early as next year. This way, XFL Football would be able to resume even if Covid-19 is still around.
The Rock and the XFL seem to be a perfect fit already. Johnson is now able to “take care of the fans” and revive his passion for football, which are two reasons why he has decided to make this move.
There are no organizational plans yet for the XFL under its new owners, but it is still a promising league with talented players. The XFL averaged 1.9 million TV viewers per game. It had projected $46 million for the entire 10-game season.
