Tua Time in Miami
Former Alabama QB Tua Tagovailoa and the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a $30.28M contract with a signing bonus of $19.6M. This contract is interesting because it is fully guaranteed. The deal is for four years.
By now, everyone knows Tua’s interesting story at Alabama. Long story short: he came into the starting position at halftime of the 2018 CFB National Championship Game. He remained the starting quarterback for the rest of his Alabama career. Tua’s college career was one full of injuries, one of which is the hip injury that could have ruined his draft stock, but Miami still decided to go with him and he became the 5th overall 2020 draft pick. Should Tua be able to stay healthy, he will be the Dolphins’ franchise quarterback.
Now, let’s return to why Tua’s rookie contract is interesting. The Dolphins are putting a lot of faith in Tua’s health. Tua has been medically cleared for all football activity since March 9th and he held his own virtual pro day before the 2020 NFL Draft. So without really having to prove that his hip injury won’t be a problem, Tua has managed to sign a fully guaranteed contract with bonus incentives. Now THAT is faith.
By all means, I hope that Tua finds success in Miami and I believe that he will be ready if there is a football season this year. The Miami Dolphins have already made a statement with their new Quarterback and it’s obvious that they are trying to make much needed changes to their franchise. Whenever Hard Rock Stadium can be filled with fans again, you can expect full Tua Mania.
