NBA Return: A Whole New Game
On March 11, the NBA season was suspended after Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz contracted the Coronavirus. The suspension shocked everyone around the league and soon after, all sports were shut down. Since then, Adam Silver has been uncertainly trying to find a safe way for basketball to resume. It’s been 140 days since the game that we know and love has been played in its normal format. The NBA is set to return tomorrow, July 30 and it will absolutely be a whole new game.
Basketball is back, but without fans. Also, the players are basically on lockdown in Orlando. At this point, it’s safe to say that everyone is just happy to see players like LeBron, Giannis, and James Harden back on the court. This will probably be the hardest title to compete for in NBA history, simply because of everything that has happened this year. It just means more.
The league was able to bring 22 teams to the bubble in Orlando and they’ve all stayed relatively safe since the beginning. Since the last Covid-19 test results were announced on July 20, out of 344 players, zero have tested positive.
To get back in the swing of things, the teams have been playing scrimmage games and star players like Ja Morant and Giannis Antetokounmpo have picked up right where they left off. The rest of the 2020 NBA season will obviously be different from anything we’ve ever seen before, but the players that made the trip to Orlando are committed to competing for a chance to win the Finals.
